Background
The main purpose of this role is to develop templates, which will increase access to the CAVE
CAVE Unity SDK – Boosting an MMU Core Facility
The CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) is a campus-wide core facility based within the Manchester Met Health & Education Faculty.
A software development kit (SDK) has been in development for the Unity game engine to make it function within CAVE and display 3D digital worlds. The bare bones of the SDK is complete, but there are still many features to work on such as:
- Creating demonstration scenes
- Writing documentation
- Refactoring code
Adding features like:
- Microsoft Kinect integration
- Advanced 360 video player
- Advanced Intractability
The continued development of this SDK will allow for greater cross-campus collaboration generally; but specifically, with SODA, Fashion and PrintCity will most benefit.
Some example applications are using the CAVE as a fashion display zone, or using the CAVE for student group projects.
Key Responsibilities
The graduate is expected to write programs using appropriate programming languages, update and expand existing software, and test programs to identify and correct errors in the code. They will also be responsible for creating, modifying, and testing code or scripts that streamline and simplify the development process.
Key Tasks
- Progress development using Unity
- Perform research and feasibility testing to identify best practices
- Perform regular performance testing
- Produce well documented code
- Work with managers to continuously shape project design

Dates: Monday 18 August - Friday 7 November 2025
Hours: 35 hours per week full time, except for Bank Holiday Monday (25 August 2025)
Working pattern: Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:45am-4:30pm or 9:00am-4:45pm with an unpaid 45-minute lunch break
Location: Health & Education Resource Centre - Brooks Building
