Job Description

Please note, this opportunity is only available to Manchester Met 2024 graduates who will be based in the UK for the duration of this role. You must have graduated from an undergraduate course from Manchester Met in June 2024 to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from current or previous postgraduate students.
 
 
Background
 We are seeking a dynamic and motivated graduate to join the School of English in developing a comprehensive programme of employability-focused activities and work experience opportunities for our evolving interdisciplinary school. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing a framework for work-integrated learning, designed to prepare School of English students for successful careers in wide-ranging industries. You will collaborate closely with students to understand their professional aspirations and help design and deliver a tailored suite of industry panels, workshops, and events. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in programme development, event planning, and student engagement, while directly contributing to the career readiness of the next generation of English graduates.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
  •  Collaborate with the Employability Team to enhance the employability programme for School of English students.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of events, ensuring they are engaging and beneficial for participants.
  • Facilitate communication between the Employability Team, students, recent graduates and industry partners.
  • Support the assessment and refinement of employability initiatives based on student feedback and industry trends.
  • Understand and contribute to the School's Graduate Outcome plans for 2025.
 
Key Tasks
  •  Coordinate and support the planning and delivery of a diverse range of employability-focused panels, workshops and events for Employability Week 6.
  •  Collaborate with unit leaders and the careers service to produce targeted newsletters that promote events and highlight development opportunities for students.
  • Create engaging content for the Department’s social media channels, including producing short videos, interactive polls and other materials to boost student engagement.
  • Engage with recent graduates and industry professionals to expand and strengthen industry networks, developing resources such as live briefs, mentorship programs, and a guest speaker database.
  • Design, distribute, and analyse a comprehensive student survey to gather insights and identify key themes for future employability events and creative skills workshops.

Monday 18 August - Friday 7 November 2025
Hours: 35 hours per week full time, except for Bank Holiday Monday (25 August 2025)
Working pattern: Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:45am-4:30pm or 9:00am-4:45pm with an unpaid 45-minute lunch break

Person Specification

This role is only open to those who graduated from a Manchester Met undergraduate course in June 2024 and are not currently studying, nor have previously studied, on a postgraduate course. 
  
The ideal candidate will have the following:
   
Essential: 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • An interest in content production and event planning
  • Ability to meet deadlines and also adapt to changing project requirements
  • An interest in creative cultures, especially languages, literatures and the performing arts.
  
Desirable:  
  • Work experience in the creative industries
  • A degree in an Arts and Humanities subject connected to English
