Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
The main purpose of this role is to support the development, organisation and facilitation of participatory and community-engaged activities within the School of Education’s Youth and Community Research Group. You will assist with shaping the communication and collaboration between the research group, community partners and other contributors.   

  

You will provide support with a range of activities, such as:  

  • Drafting and maintaining documents that outline shared aims or ways of working  

  • Engaging in regular communication with community partners and contributors 

  • Coordinating the planning and delivery of meetings and related activities 

  

Dates: w/c 5 January 2026 – 31 July 2026
Hours: 12 hours per month.
Location: This is a hybrid role, combining remote work with some on-campus activities.

 

Key Tasks

Research Activities 

  • Assist with gathering informal feedback from community partners to understand expectations, needs and preferred ways of working. 

  • Support small-scale data collection or desk-based research as required to shape the development of collaborative and participatory processes. 

  

Liaison and Networking 

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining effective communication with community partners and other collaborators. 

  • Act as a point of contact between the research group, community partners and internal university teams, ensuring clear and timely exchange of information. 

  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of meetings and related events, including organising invitations, agendas and supporting materials. 
        

Service Provision 

  • Actively contribute to the design and development of engagement structures, membership approaches and participatory practices, in collaboration with academic staff and community stakeholders. 

  • Support the drafting and maintenance of shared principles, terms of reference or similar documents that guide collaborative activity. 

  • Assist in the organisation and administration of meetings, including scheduling, note-taking and preparation of supporting materials.  

  • Ensure accurate records of meetings and activities are maintained and disseminated appropriately.  

  
 Team Working 

  • Actively participate as a member of the Youth and Community research group, including reporting on engagement activities and contributing to shared decision making. 

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the School of Education, offering general support to help deliver the research group’s aims. 

  • Support the induction and welcome of new contributors or partners, ensuring accessible and inclusive processes.

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the criteria below:
 
Essential

  • Current postgraduate student in the School of Education.
  • Active member (or willingness to become an active member) of the Youth and Community Research Group.
  • Interest in youth and community studies, and in promoting inclusive, participatory or community-led approaches to research.
  • Commitment to inclusive practice, accessibility and working respectfully with diverse communities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently and professionally with staff and external partners.
  • Ability to work interpedently and collaboratively with other members of the Youth and Community Research Group.
  • Reliable, well-organised and capable of managing time effectively.
