Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 

Game Development: Emote VR Voicer project

The main purpose of this role is to contribute to the development of a VR art game that aims to help people express their emotions using their voice. You would be continuing the development of a partially existing demo, using the Unity game engine and C#. You will be working within the School of Digital Arts, where you will be able to use computing facilities, including working within the state of the art facilities offered by the new SODA Building. You will also be working closely with the project lead Dr. Adinda van ‘t Klooster and the wider project team towards a 10th of March exhibition deadline.

 

You will be expected to develop new functionality and embed existing assets into a game. Tasks may include developing procedural animation scripts for reactive emotional behaviours in rigged models. The game will be deployed in VR and respond to microphone input from the Quest headset.  

 

Applicants must include a link to a portfolio (e.g. GitHub, demo reel, or technical blog) showcasing relevant Unity and C# work.

 

Key Tasks

  • Develop an emotion and sound responsive VR interface, following instructions provided by the project lead.
  • Implement new game features using C# in Unity, including voice input mapping and animation triggering systems
  • Liaise with the hiring manager in weekly meetings
  • Complete weekly sprints

Hours of work: 16 hours per week Working pattern: two days per week, one of these days is the Thursday, the second day can be negotiated

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 
 

Essential:

  • Experience of programming in C# for Unity
  • Knowledge of procedural animation scripts
  • Final year undergraduate students (Level 6) and postgraduate students
  • A profile of academic study related to games development
  • Able to work with animation trees and procedural animation
  • Work well towards a deadline
  • Experience of making 3D games in the Unity game engine - evidenced through a portfolio
  • Ability to work independently with strong communication skills
  • Excellent team worker


Desirable: 

  • present a portfolio of work with work related to this job description
  • Examples of broader related experience in working within a research project
