Job Description

Please note, this opportunity is only available to Manchester Met 2025 graduates who will be based in the UK for the duration of this role. You must have graduated from an undergraduate course from Manchester Met in June 2025 to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from current or previous postgraduate students.
 

Role Overview
The Graduate Intern will play a key role in developing and promoting the Residential Life (Res Life) programme, working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners (e.g. Sport and Wellbeing) to deliver an engaging student experience.

About the Team
Based within the Residential and Conference Team (Estates, Facilities and Capital Development), we manage over 2,100 student bedrooms and provide facilities management, welfare support, and a vibrant Residential Life programme of social, educational, and charitable events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of a diverse, inclusive events programme to enhance student engagement
  • Manage and grow Res Life’s social media presence (primarily Instagram and TikTok), including increasing student-generated content
  • Coordinate Student Content Creators, organising and overseeing weekly content (e.g. blogs, vlogs, videos, photography)
  • Attend and capture content at on-site events
  • Support student communications across web, social media, live chat, and Open Days
  • Gather feedback on events and promote initiatives such as the National Student Housing Survey

About You

  • Confident on camera with strong awareness of social media trends (especially Instagram and TikTok)
  • Creative, organised, and enthusiastic about student engagement
  • Comfortable using a smartphone with a high-quality camera to produce content
  • Good understanding of content formats for different platforms
  • Willing to represent the service across social media, website, and wider communications

Hours: 35 hours per week full time.
 
Working pattern: Work hours will be 9:30am-5:00pm before student arrivals and 11:00am-6:30pm or 12:30pm-8pm after 18th September.

Due to the nature of the Service working hours may vary and the post holder may be required to work the following weekends (you will receive time off in the week before the days of work):

19-20 September 2026

10-11 October 2026

17-18 October 2026

Person Specification

This role is only open to those who graduated from a Manchester Met undergraduate course in June 2025 and are not currently studying, nor have previously studied, on a postgraduate course. 
  
The ideal candidate will have the following:
   

Essential:

  • Previous experience of planning and delivering events
  • Understanding how to use Social Media (Instagram and Facebook)
  • Be confident being filmed and photographed for marketing purposes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with a broad range of customers.
  • Highly motivated and able to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to use appropriate computer systems and software packages, including Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, or equivalent.
  • Awareness and understanding of importance of good customer service.
  • Assist with any other duties as directed by the Residential and Conference team to support the student experience. 
  • Ability to contribute in a positive manner to all Residential and Conference activities.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with customers and to collaborate with others to deliver an effective service.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including an approachable and friendly manner and the ability to deal sensitively with people.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and delegate work.
  • Ability to create and keep accurate records using the appropriate computer systems and software packages, including Microsoft Word, Excel, or equivalent and relevant facilities management systems.
  • Ability to deliver a culture of excellence in customer service.

Desirable: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of working with students to build a community
  • An understanding of Legislation applicable to Residential Accommodation.
